America imposes restrictions on Chinese companies from buying artificial intelligence (AI) chips produced by NVIDIA and AMD. According to them this was done to prevent chips using American technology from being accessed by the Chinese military. According to a Reuters report, America now wants to prevent the purchase of AI chips and chip-making equipment using subsidiary companies.
Chinese companies reportedly buy AI chips and chip-making equipment through subsidiaries not located in China. With this, the imposed technological barriers can be bypassed because they do not violate existing laws. These new barriers are expected to be announced this month.
Also under consideration is preventing Chinese companies from accessing the same chip capabilities through cloud computing services such as Amazon Web Services (AWS). China's ability in the field of technology wants to be restrained because they are seen as the closest challenger to the United States in the near future.
