Computer Production Plunges In Q3 2023 With Apple Worst Hit

IDC released their latest report and once again computer production in Q3 2023 plunged compared to the same quarter last year. Overall 68.2 million computers were released compared to 73.8 million corresponding to a reduction of 7.6%.

Lenovo still holds the position of the largest manufacturer with a 23.5% market share followed by HP (19.8%), Dell (15%), Apple (10.6%) and Asus (7.1%). Only HP showed a sales increase of around 6.4% among the five manufacturers with the largest share. The worst affected was Apple with production falling 23.1% followed by Dell with a reduction of 14.3%.

IDC predicts the market will only stabilize again in H2 2024 with new computer purchases taking place after support for Windows 10 is discontinued by Microsoft. The reduction in computer production over the past few quarters is said to be a factor in Apple delaying the launch of the new MacBook to next year instead of the end of this year.
