Damages Google To Pay To Sonos Court Overturns

Previously, a court in the United States found Google guilty of violating several audio equipment patents owned by Sonos. But now a judge in California has thrown out the $32.5 million in damages, saying a patent filed by Sonos in 2006 was unenforceable.

Sonos disagrees with the judge's decision and will file an appeal. Meanwhile, Google has not yet issued an official statement regarding the court's latest decision. The multi-room technology used by Google on their Chromecast and Nest devices is a source of contention between the two companies.

Sonos claims that in the early stages the two companies met to use their patented technology before Google stopped it. When the Chromecast product was launched, Sonos saw it as Google's move to produce a competitor device to their product.
