DHL Uses CelcomDigi's 5G Network For Automation System In Their Warehouse

One of the reasons why the government is developing a local 5G network is not only to offer faster internet connections for the people, but also so that it can be utilized in various types of industries and allow local companies to operate more efficiently.

A recent example shown is DHL Malaysia, where they have started the automation process at the DHL Supply Chain Malaysia warehouse located in Shah Alam with the help of 5G network equipment by CelcomDigi.

DHL combined CelcomDigi's 5G network, along with the use of drones, robots and artificial intelligence systems to develop an inventory management system and automated daily stock checks.

The advantage of using these drone and robot systems is that these drones do not require any input or instructions from human workers, and they are also able to manage and also check the stock in the DHL Supply Chain warehouse throughout the day without having to stop.

In fact, DHL Malaysia says that on average, human workers are able to check around 1000 pallets of products per day, which process includes scanning the product's QR code and checking back against DHL's database.

During the test phase of the use of these drones, DHL said as many as 8000 pallets of goods could be checked quickly and without any errors and allow workers to be used for other tasks.

What's even more interesting about this collaboration is that DHL uses CelcomDigi's commercial 5G network which is the same used by the telecommunication company's customers. In fact, the connection mode is using sub-6 frequencies (3.4-3.5GHz) and not mmWave which is commonly used in locations like this.

This shows the quality of the existing network that can be used not only by ordinary people, but companies in optimizing their daily operations.

The Managing Director of DHL Supply Chain Malaysia, Mark Lorenz also said that they will demonstrate how their drones and robots are fully functional in their Shah Alam warehouse, before deciding to use the same system in their other warehouses throughout Malaysia.
