The world record for the world's highest number of live streaming viewers is once again held by Disney+ Hotstar. The Cricket World Cup match between India and Pakistan streamed by Disney+ Hotstar on October 14 recorded 35 million concurrent viewers. It surpassed the previous record of 32 million viewers of the Indian Premier Cricket League (IPL) match recorded by JioCinema last May.
This new world record has been set by Disney+ Hotstar as it can be watched for free in India. Since losing the rights to show the IPL league, Disney+ Hotstar has lost millions of subscribers which also caused Disney to record losses.
The offering of live sports events is a high financial source with it being grabbed by other platforms such as Amazon and Apple TV+. This is the reason why the streaming rights of the English Premier League (EPL) are up for grabs for various platforms such as Apple TV+ because it is guaranteed to increase the number of subscribers.
