Electricity Consumption by Artificial Intelligence Expected to Surpass Number of Countries by 2028

Not long ago, we reported that the use of artificial intelligence technology developed by OpenAI, Microsoft, Google and so on used as much as 500ml of water for every five to 50 questions asked to it.

Recently, a report by Schneider Electric has said that the consumption of electricity by server machines developed specifically for the purpose of artificial intelligence and machine learning is estimated to reach around 4.3GW by the end of this year.

According to the same report, the amount of electricity used annually by server machines as a whole reaches 54GW, and artificial intelligence technology alone is seen to be close to 10 percent of the total consumption.

This year, it was seen that 80 percent of the energy consumption by artificial intelligence technology can be attributed to machine learning, while the other 20 percent is for the purpose of inference, or decision-making based on the information it has so far.

Schneider also said that the annual energy consumption rate of this technology is expected to increase from year to year by 26 to 36 years, and by the year 2028, the amount of electricity consumption by artificial intelligence alone is expected to increase to 20GW per year, and energy consumption global electricity by server machines as a whole will reach 90GW per year.

It is also not surprising that by 2028, electricity consumption by artificial intelligence will consume as much as 20 percent of the total energy consumption by all global server machines.
