Google today introduced their latest smartphones, Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro. Interestingly, through this announcement, Google stated that they will offer software updates for 7 years for these devices, covering operating system updates, security and new features.
This makes the Google Pixel 8 one of the smartphones with Android operating system support for a long time – allowing the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro to enjoy a new Android version until 2030, which is either Android 20 or Android 21.
This is a good addition compared to before, where operating system updates will be limited to a few years, and additional security updates are provided for the next few years.
With this move, we may see some other manufacturers also announce long-term support. But it might be a little challenging if the chip manufacturer doesn't offer support, which might not be a problem for Google which uses its own processing chip, Tensor.
