Google Starts Suggesting Users Switch To Passkeys Replacing Passwords

Google began recommending their account users to move to the Passkey system instead of passwords. By requiring Passkey to be used by default, Google hopes that account security will be further enhanced. Previously they required users to activate the two-factor authentication (2FA) system by default for the same reason.

Through Passkey the user no longer needs to enter a password to log in to the account. Instead biometric systems such as fingerprint scanners, face scanners and pins can be used instead. It is not only faster than typing in a password but also more secure as it requires the device's biometric system to be used.

Passkey was first activated in May this year with WhatsApp among those supporting it at the time. In addition, Uber and Ebay also started supporting Passkey. Passkey passes FIDO Alliance, Apple and Microsoft standards.
