In the last four years, Huawei has faced various issues producing devices due to restrictions imposed by the United States. This year they rose again through the P60 series equipped with a Kirin chip that allows them to return to offering devices with 5G support. According to a Nikkei Asia report, the extraordinary response to the P60 series makes Huawei now target sales of 70 million smartphones in 2024.
This is a lofty target as it is greater than the number of smartphones sold in 2023 and 2022. This year they initially targeted the sale of 30 million devices but have now changed after the P60 series received an incredible response. Since being marketed the device is often out of stock driven by the patriotic spirit of consumers in China.
In order to ensure that this target can be achieved, Nikkei said Huawei has already started collecting the necessary components such as PCBs, camera lenses, camera sensors and more. Before the sanctions were imposed, Huawei had almost overtaken Samsung as the world's second largest device manufacturer.
Restrictions mean that the device is not offered in certain markets and can only be sold in small quantities due to a lack of components. Huawei has a great reputation for producing innovations in the mobile device space. Their absence caused other manufacturers such as Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo and Vivo to rise to fill the void in the market. Can Huawei return to being a mobile phone powerhouse? Only time can tell.
