Humane is a startup founded by several former Apple employees. Since the beginning of last year, Humane has been targeting their smart devices that are claimed to have artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities but are not smartphones. The mystery about their products was answered a little today after the AI Pin was shown under the arms of the Coperni fashion event in conjunction with Paris Fashion Week 2023.
AI Pin is a compact, square-shaped device that is pinned to the lapel of a shirt. It does not have any screen but is equipped with a projector to display the necessary information. Without a screen it can also only be controlled using the user's voice. It is also equipped with a camera that is used to understand gestures and surrounding objects. At a glance it looks like a Z Flip4 in the closed position.
In a demo shown at a TED Talk event a few months ago, Humane demonstrated AI Pin's ability to translate English to French in real time. No more detailed information has been announced by Humane so far except that it is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon SOC.
AI Pin will be officially launched on November 9 and more information about the specifications, capabilities and where it will be marketed will be announced. While Meta and Apple see the XR device as the future, Humane feels a wearable without a screen is the answer to the smartphones used today.
