In recent years, video content platforms have appeared with quite a lot of offerings. In Malaysia alone, there are various platforms that users can use for various types of viewing.
Despite this, a survey from Kantar, a data analysis group from London has released a survey which says that YouTube is the number one video viewing platform in Malaysia.
This was announced by Loh Ben Jern, Head of YouTube Malaysia during the presentation of the YouTube Works Malaysia event, which featured nine local campaigns that will represent Malaysia at the YouTube Works South East Asia event that will take place in Jakarta on October 12.
According to Ben Jern, Malaysians seem to have no problem watching short video content through YouTube Shorts or longer and more in-depth traditional videos. In fact, YouTube Shorts are used as a way for viewers to discover new content, especially when the Shorts algorithm allows viewers in Malaysia to enjoy both types of content easily.
In the meantime, he also said that Lo-Fi music content uploaded from Malaysia has increased by 25x from June 2020 to June 2023 this year, showing how there are many creative musicians who create music content that many people listen to in this country.
Another interesting statistic that is also shown is that 50 percent of the viewing hours of content developed in Malaysia also actually come from abroad, giving the impression that our local content also has a large number of viewers from abroad.
With this, it's not surprising to see nine local video marketing campaigns representing Malaysia at the YouTube Works South East Asia event in Jakarta in just a few days.
