Meta's dream to become the world champion of metamesta and XR headset is still not extinguished even if it is a little stunted due to the lack of response. The launch of Quest 3 last week showed the headset's ability to improve through Qualcomm's Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2 chip. According to a South China Morning Post report, this caused the Facebook Agile Silicon Team (FAST) staff under Facebook Reality Labs to start being fired.
Meta's failure to develop its own chips prompted the company to reduce its workforce. FAST currently has 600 staff with the number to be removed still unknown so far. Since changing the name to Meta, Mark Zuckerberg is willing to lose billions of dollars to build the metacity Horizon Worlds.
Meta's initial efforts were less successful as it required users to purchase a Meta Quest headset which was not only expensive but not offered worldwide. Just a few weeks ago Horizon Worlds was accessible using a smartphone web browser. Even that is still limited to residents in some Western countries only.
Meta feels the world of metamesta is the future of headsets. Apple, on the other hand, has a vision of it being used as a workspace that combines the real world with the virtual through XR technology. Our opinion is that as long as a headset is not comfortable to wear for long periods of time and there is a need for it, then it will not be used by the public.
