Micron Opened Their Newest Assembly And Test Center In Batu Kawan

 


In conjunction with the 45th anniversary of Micron, a very prominent memory chip maker, they opened their latest assembly plant in Batu Kawan industrial area, Penang last week.


The opening of the center was officiated by the Chief Minister of Penang, His Excellency Tuan Chow Kon Yeow and Micron is reported to have spent $1 billion (~RM4.5 billion) to open this latest center which will house the assembly and testing equipment for NAND components and The latest DRAM developed by them.



The factory is Micron's second factory in Penang, where their first factory is located in the Perai Industrial Estate which opened in 2015, where the company's total investment in Malaysia and Penang is as much as $2 billion (~RM9.5 billion) so far.


According to Micron Technologies' Senior Vice President of Global Assembly and Test Operations, Gursharan Singh, Micron's second location will allow the company to assemble and test their memory and storage components on a larger scale, and also with shorter cycle times.



"This expansion allows Micron Malaysia to increase production and further strengthen its assembly and testing capabilities to supply NAND, PCRAM, and SSD modules, especially now, when the needs for industries such as AI, smart automotive and so on are increasing."


He said Micron's continued focus on sustainability, as can be seen through the facility's design that complies with the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system, the most widely used green building certification in the world.


Micron's production plant in Batu Kawan also uses smart manufacturing applications to optimize production efficiency, yield and quality to ensure Micron can continue to provide world-class products efficiently and with quality.
