MPB Construction Direction of Genting Toll Stopped Because It Has Not Received Permission

The mystery about the toll to go to Genting Highlands today became even more tangled after the Bentong Municipal Council (MPB) issued an order to stop its construction along with them. According to a New Straits Time report, even if it is built on private land, the developer needs to get a permit and approval from the municipal council. In addition, the construction of toll roads in Malaysia needs to obtain approval from the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Transport first.

Pictures of toll construction in Gohtong Jaya started going viral since the beginning of this week, causing speculation that Genting as the owner of the road to Genting Highlands will start collecting tolls. Since opening in 1965, the maintenance of the road to this leading resort has been fully borne by Genting without any fees being charged. In previous reports, it was believed that toll collection would be taken one-way only starting in June 2024.

The majority of the public's reaction to the picture of the toll road being built is negative. They already have to pay tolls to use the East Coast Highway and this extra cost makes many want to boycott visiting this tourist location famous for theme parks, cool weather and gambling.
