Starlink Announces Satellite-Based Cellular Service – Starts Messaging In 2024, Calls And Data In 2025

Starlink is one of the satellite-based services already offered in Malaysia. Through it, it allows users to subscribe to internet services via satellite, and use internet access anywhere - including in the countryside.

Most recently, today Starlink also announced a new service under them, called "Direct to Cell". Through the service, Starlink aims to offer cellular services on phones via satellite.

Through a dedicated page provided by Starlink, they list that they will offer messaging features starting in 2024, followed by voice calling and data services starting in 2025.

Interestingly, this Direct to Cell feature is said to be usable on existing LTE phones, and there is no specific requirement to use this service. It is said that this service can be used like existing roaming services today.

With this service, it will simultaneously allow users to access messaging, call and data services = anytime and anywhere, without worrying especially when in an area without a transmitter tower for the main telecommunication services.

As usual, let's all look forward to more about Starlink Direct To Cell next year.
