For those of you who don't know about TCL, they are a device manufacturer that focuses on screens based on e-ink, in addition to developing good television screens. Most recently, after launching the TCL Tab 11 in Malaysia recently, TCL today launched the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G and 5G series in Malaysia, which are smartphones that use a "paper-like" screen.
TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G
TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G is TCL's most premium phone or in the flagship category for this series. It comes with a 6.78-inch, FHD+ LCD screen and supports a refresh rate of up to 90Hz. TCL says finger touch on the screen will feel like touching paper, healthy for the user's eyes and powered by NXTURBO.
This phone is powered by a Mediatek Helio G88 processor chip, paired with 8GB of RAM memory and 256GB of internal storage that can be expanded with a micro SD card.
This TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G uses a rear tri-camera that combines a 50MP f/1.8 (wide angle) + 5MP f/2.2 (ultra wide angle) + 2MP f/2.4 sensor with 1080p 30fps video recording support. Several dedicated recording modes are included, including One Shot mode, Steady Snap, Bokeh and a few more. The selfie camera is 32MP f/2.0.
This TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G is powered by a 5010mAh capacity battery with 33W fast charging support. The TCL 40 NXTPAPER only comes with WiFi 5 support, Bluetooth 5.1, NFC available and uses a fingerprint scanner built into the power button. The speakers are stereo powered 3D Boom Sound by DTS.
Specifically for the Malaysian market, the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G comes with an Artful T-pen which is a stylus to write, sketch or draw easily on the phone's screen. Powering this phone is NXTPAPER UI, based on TCL UI 5.0 Android 13.
TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G
Despite including 5G support, TCL seems not to focus this model for the local market. The TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G comes with a smaller screen, which is a 6.6-inch LCD with HD+ resolution but still with a 90Hz refresh rate. The screen technology is also the same. It is powered by a Dimensity 6020 chip paired with 6GB of RAM memory and 256GB of internal storage that can also be expanded with a micro SD card.
The device also has three cameras with a main 50MP sensor, in addition to a 2+2 Megapixel sensor for depth and macro. The selfie camera is also the same which is 32MP. The battery is 5000mAh but limited to 15W charging
The TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G also does not support a stylus like the 4G version, and speaker support is limited to mono only. The operating system is kept the same, namely NXTPAPER UI based on TCL UI 5.0 Android 13.
Price
In Malaysia TCL 40 NXTPAPER 4G is sold at a price of RM899. While the TCL 40 NXTPAPER 5G is sold at a price of RM999. In conjunction with the launch, TCL Malaysia is offering free TWS worth RM159 if you purchase the 5G version from 10 October to 17 October.
