Benchmark scores of the Tensor G3 chip used in the Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have appeared on the Geekbench 6 site today. As expected it is lower than Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and Apple A17 Pro.
In the single core test Tensor G3 recorded 1760 marks while in the multi core test it recorded 4442 marks. In comparison, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 scored 1922/5017 and the Apple A17 Pro scored 2863/7128. Google has said from the beginning that the Tensor chip was not designed for high performance but more for the artificial intelligence capabilities needed in Pixel devices.
From what we've seen over the past two years, the difference in Geekbench scores doesn't have much of an impact on real-world performance. It can only be seen if doing video editing. Among Pixel fans the unique camera feature of the device is the main reason why it is preferred over other devices in the market.
