Threads started providing GIF support and did a census last week. In the near future, Threads will also offer an API that opens the door to the production of third-party applications and also facilitates the publication of news on a platform like Twitter.
Adam Mosseri provided confirmation the API will be offered in a status upload last weekend. It's the answer to the question of users wanting a Tweetdeck-like app for Threads. He however said there was concern that when this API was offered, Threads would be filled with content from large publishers rather than content producers.
From the beginning Threads did not want to be a platform for real-time news and content. This follows various issues faced by Twitter offering similar content. In order to avoid the issue of breaking the law on fake or racially related news, Threads refused to focus on the news until now.
