Users Can Later Use Credit Or Debit Cards To Pay For LRT, MRT And Monorail Services

Today, the government is ready to start a pilot test of the use of an open payment system on a number of highways. Now, the same concept will be extended to public transport users.

Sharing in Parliament, the Minister of Transport stated that Infrastructure will start this open payment system project from March 2024, and it is expected to take around 11 months to install gantry with open payment support at 50% of stations.

The government aims to complete the installation of the open payment system at all stations by August 2025.

This open payment system will allow public transport users to pay using a credit or debit card, and not be tied to the use of tokens or TNG cards only.

Prasarana is expected to introduce this open payment system on the Kelana Jaya LRT, Ampang LRT, Kajang MRT, Putrajaya MRT and Monorail lines.

Once the introduction of this open payment system is completed, several new systems are expected to continue to be studied – including using QR codes and so on.
