WhatsApp users can now use the Google Passkey feature to log into their accounts starting today. Through Passkey, fingerprint, face and pin biometric scans can be used instead of entering a password. We previously reported that WhatsApp was testing Passkey support last August.
With Passkey account security is more guaranteed because it requires a biometric scanning system. With this gaining access to the phone number alone is not enough for the account to be hacked. Google itself started enabling Passkey as the primary security system by default on user accounts a few weeks ago. Because it passes Fido Alliance standards, Passket is supported on multiple platforms and not just for the Google ecosystem.
