Social media platform X has today been sued for AUD 610,500 by the Australian government for failing to provide any details on how the company will combat child exploitation on the platform.
The Australian government says that it has already sent notices to companies like X, Google, Facebook, TikTok, Discord, Twitch and others about how they want to combat the issue, but now the government wants in-depth details and not just empty promises.
Most companies say that they will use methods such as automatic digital detection to identify such content, while some of them also say that they will use manual reporting methods to ensure that they can curb the problem transparently.
Google and X are the two companies that were warned, but X is the only one sued so far because the response from X was so bad compared to Google.
This is not surprising when it is seen that the company has laid off a large part of their workforce, many of whom are responsible for ensuring that bad content does not abound on the platform.
X Party says that while it is true that detection of child exploitation content has dropped from 90 percent to 75 percent after Elon Musk's takeover, they say that percentage is steadily increasing.
It now uses an automated content detection system, and says it employs content experts who can review content on the platform in 12 different languages.
X can still appeal against the suit, but for now has not released any statement about it.
