The government is ready to target the 5G coverage rate in Malaysia to reach 80% of populated areas in Malaysia by the end of 2023. Sharing the latest figures, Fahmi Fadzil, Minister of Communications and Digital stated that the 5G coverage rate in Malaysia has now reached 73% of populated areas.
This also shows that only 7% needs to be covered before reaching the 80% target set by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for the year 2023.
By reaching the figure of 80% coverage area, the next phase in the development of the 5G network will begin – including the formation of a second entity that will also begin the development of the network.
At the same time, the government is also looking at measures to encourage the use of 5G, which is still low, in addition to overcoming the additional charges imposed by telecommunication providers for 5G access.
