Amazon Is Reportedly Developing Its Own OS To Replace Android

Amazon may be saying goodbye to Fire OS which is the operating system used on their tablets, smart screens and various other products starting next year. Fire OS based on Android AOSP is believed to be replaced by an operating system that uses the code name Vega according to a Lowpass report.

Vega is believed to be used on Fire TV dongles and smart televisions starting in 2024 before being expanded to other devices. With a standalone operating system, Amazon no longer has to rely on Android AOSP which has a lot of code that Amazon doesn't need. A lighter OS, optimized for Amazon's needs and without any barriers to use can be used without issues hereafter.

Like Android, Vega is based on Linux to ensure that existing Fire OS applications can still be used on the new operating system in the future.
