Apple Won't Bring Back Touch ID On iPhone

If you're a fan of the Touch ID fingerprint scanning system on the iPhone, you might not be happy about this news. According to a MacRumors report citing information from Weibo, Apple will no longer produce the fingerprint chip required for Touch ID. It's a clear sign that Apple has no plans to bring back the biometric system introduced on the iPhone 5S a decade ago.

The last new device with Touch ID was the iPhone SE Gen 3 launched last year. With Face ID being more widely used now and the iPhone SE rumored to use the iPhone 15 design, there's no reason to keep Touch ID on the iPhone. Previously there were rumors that Apple might bring back Touch ID but under the screen like on Android devices now.

Personally we feel Face ID is more than adequate. The lack of it during the pandemic is no longer a big issue because it is rare to wear a face mask and there is an unlock system with the Apple Watch. Touch ID is still only offered on iPad and Mac computers for now.
