Previously, we have heard that Huawei is about to introduce an update to HarmonyOS called HarmonyOS Next which will bring a number of changes – mainly removing support for installing Android APK applications on the device.
Further to that, now it is shared that the changes are for Chinese users only, and are not affected for global users.
In China, HarmonyOS will be updated and will require all apps to offer native support for it. Android APK installations will no longer be supported – thus moving into the next phase of making HarmonyOS an alternative Android operating system.
For the global market, Huawei will still maintain the use of the EMUI-branded operating system and support Android APK applications. It is not yet known when the transition to HarmonyOS Next will be done for global market users.
