iPhone Will Support RCS Starting 2024

After years of resistance to its use, Apple has finally relented and will support the RCS system on iPhones starting next year. According to a 9to5Mac report, Apple will start supporting the RCS Universal Profile which is a standard set by the GSM Association.

With RCS support, the issue of texts from Android being displayed in green in iMessage will be resolved. Apple has long been urged to support RCS by Google d because it brings more modern features such as sending over WiFi, high quality multimedia support, viewing received messages and even viewing messages being typed.

Apple's announcement comes as the EU enforces the Digital Markets Act which forces manufacturers to allow users to receive messages across platforms. It's the same as their act of agreeing to use USB-C on the iPhone because it was introduced by the EU.
