Because cybercrime involving banking is seen to be increasingly prevalent, Maybank is seen to have taken the initiative to better protect the financial security of their users. Last July 2023, Maybank enforced that only MAE applications can use the Secure2u feature to verify banking transactions.
This Secure2u feature is important for the security of your banking account. This is because it works as a notification provider if a transaction is about to be made. Then, we as the account owner need to confirm it if we want to continue making the transaction. This step and feature is to add another layer of security to our banking to make it more difficult to hack.
This Secure2u feature can be said to be more secure than SMS TAC and OTP numbers. This is because these two features have the potential for scammers to contact the telecommunications company you subscribe to and state that you want to change your SIM. If this step is successful and the SIM is successfully changed, the scammer will be able to receive a TAC SMS or OTP number through the changed SIM. This in turn will make all your personal information easier to hack.
Because of this, Maybank has taken another proactive step to add another layer of security in the procedure to activate and verify transactions through this Secure2u feature. Maybank decided to introduce the updated Secure2u activation process. This process will involve activation at the ATM after registration has been successfully made on your smartphone application.
Why Do You Need to Activate Secure2u At ATM Machines?
Maybank ATM
This activation initiative through ATM machines is for users who have just changed smartphones and for those of you who are activating Secure2u for the first time. This step is actually to prevent people from relying solely on the use of smartphones to activate and verify transactions. This is because, we already know that when our data and personal information can be accessed online and are in one place, it is highly likely that all our personal information can be accessed simultaneously.
Either way, scammers usually need full information about us to hack. This is like needing a smartphone to access a banking application, needing our card number and ATM pin to access our banking account. In fact, usually such data can all be accessed simultaneously if an application is not sufficiently secure.
For this reason, the steps to activate the Secure2u feature are better if done at an ATM. This is because it will create another layer to strengthen your banking security system. But with one condition – don't share your pin number with anyone.
How To Activate Secure2u?
To activate this Secure2u feature, there are two steps for each user category, namely users with an ATM card and users without an ATM card. Both of these categories require you to download the MAE application and register through their application first. This is the first step to activate Secure2u.
Download and open the MAE application.
Under the Quick Action menu, select 'Secure2u' to register Secure2u on your smartphone.
Select 'Register Secure2u Now' and just follow the instructions on your screen to complete the registration process.
After successfully registering Secure2u, you will receive a notification that will remind you to activate Secure2u.
Users Who Have ATM Cards
If you have an ATM card and have already registered Secure2u on the MAE application, then want to activate it on a Maybank ATM machine, this is the next step.
Go to your nearest ATM machine and insert the ATM card in the machine.
Select 'Secure2u Activation' displayed on the main menu of the ATM machine screen.
Select 'Activate. Secure2u' and just follow the instructions on the screen to complete the activation process.
After it is activated, you can use this Secure2u feature to verify transactions at least after 12 hours of this feature being activated. This feature is to prevent the occurrence of transactions that are not confirmed by any party.
Users Who Do Not Have An ATM Card Or Are Abroad
But for MAE account users who do not have an ATM card or are currently abroad, you just need to contact Maybank's customer service, known as MGCC. You need to contact the MGCC within 30 days after you register Secure2u on the MAE application. After it is activated, you can use this Secure2u feature to verify transactions at least 12 hours after this feature is activated. If you have any problems or want to ask for more information, you can visit Maybank's official website.
Conclusion
So in conclusion, the initiative introduced by Maybank is seen as being very proactive in safeguarding the security of their users' information. If previously they have launched the Secure2u feature to verify transactions, this time they also suggest that this Secure2u activation be done at an ATM machine near you. As of today, there are over 2900 ATM machines across the country that allow you to activate this feature. So through this recommendation, it simultaneously helps in reducing the probability of our banking account being hacked by irresponsible individuals.
Maybe later we will see various other new initiatives by Maybank in an effort to improve their banking security system. Therefore, don't forget to download the MAE application through a legitimate application store, make sure your device is updated to the latest operating system and monitor your banking activities to prevent you from becoming a victim of financial fraud. You should also avoid sharing banking information such as your password and PIN number with anyone, do not download malware from suspicious sources and be careful when answering unknown calls.
