Notes is a feature introduced by Meta for Instagram. It starts with text sharing limited to 60 characters, then supports music sharing, location, placing selfie videos, Avatars and audio messages.
Most recently, Notes has arrived on the Messenger application after also being introduced to WhatsApp. Notes on Messenger will also disappear after 24 hours just like Stories. It will appear next to the user's profile picture at the top of the chat list displaying users who are currently active online.
The Notes feature appears to be limited to users on iOS and Android only as when I tried it was not displayed on the web version. For those who want to use this feature, look for the "+" icon on your profile picture in the Messenger application.
