The Omegle teleconferencing site was abruptly shut down today by its founder Leif K-Brooks this morning. It closed after 14 years of operation. If the Omegle site is accessed today, users can only read an open letter from K-Brooks giving the reason why the site's operations have been terminated.
One of the main reasons is that the operating costs to ensure that users of various ages can use the site safely are high, causing it to no longer be borne by the company.
Instead of continuing operations but the safety of users cannot be ensured, K-Brooks took the drastic step of simply stopping operations. This is because he himself was a victim of sexual harassment as a child and does not want the same thing to happen to underage Omegle users.
