OpenAI Fires Founder and CEO Sam Altman

The world's leading artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI has fired their CEO Sam Altman early this morning. OpenAI's board of directors released a statement saying Altman was inconsistent in his communications with the board, hindering his ability to carry out his responsibilities. The board was no longer confident in Altman's ability to continue leading OpenAI, causing him to be removed from the company he founded in 2015.

Mira Murati, who was the company's CTO, now holds the position of CEO while Altman's successor is appointed. Altman through the X account said he enjoyed his time at OpenAI especially with the talented workforce at the company. He will give a longer explanation about his dismissal at a later date.

A few hours after Altman was fired, chairman and founder of the company Greg Brockman announced his resignation from the company with immediate effect via his X account.

This sudden decision was taken a day after OpenAI suspended registration of new accounts to access GPT-4 Turbo due to overwhelming demand. Although ChatGPT and DALL-E 3 are the two generative AIs with the most users in the world, OpenAI is still operating at a loss due to extremely high operating costs.
