Over 91% of OpenAI Staff Threaten to Resign if Board of Directors Not Changed

The chaos that happened at OpenAI last weekend is not over yet with its two founders Sam Altman and Greg Brockman confirmed to have joined Microsoft and will lead a new division of artificial intelligence (AI) development. This morning there was a report that more than 700 of the 770 OpenAI staff signed a letter to resign if the board of directors were all changed.

They also want Altman and Brockman to return to the company. Among the signatories of this letter is OpenAI chief researcher Ilya Sutskever who was one of the reasons Altman was fired last weekend. Altman will take over as CEO at Microsoft and says there is room for former OpenAI staff to serve under him.

OpenAI's board of directors yesterday declined to resign and instead appointed Emmet Shear as interim CEO. Microsoft says it remains committed to supporting OpenAI despite starting a new AI division led by Altman and Brockmen that will compete directly. The situation at OpenAI is still not over with reports emerging that there is still room for Altman and Brockman to return to save the company from being crippled by losing over 91% of its existing staff.
