Signal, one of the privacy-focused messaging apps that includes full encryption features, has now shared that it is testing username support on its messaging platform.
With this move, users can share usernames to communicate, and no longer need to share phone numbers like today.
This will simultaneously allow users to communicate like on Telegram - where there is no need to share phone numbers, and it is sufficient to share usernames only. This will also increase the level of privacy among users.
Signal says it's currently in testing, and users will need to use the development version of the app to test it. We might see it roll out to everyone in a few months.
