Transport Minister, Anthony Loke has now stated that the government currently has no plans to regulate fares for ride-hailing services.
Responding to a question in Parliament, the Minister of Transport stated that the fare rate that users pay for ride-hailing services depends on demand and supply at a given time. If a price ceiling is introduced, it is likely to lead to an increase in prices, making it difficult for users to use ride-hailing services.
Because of that, the government has not planned to regulate the price of the ride-hailing service for the time being.
Also added is that based on the existing policy, the ride-hailing service company can take a maximum of 20% commission for the service charge.
