The New HarmonyOS is Expected to No Longer Support Installing Android APK Apps

HarmonyOS is an operating system developed by Huawei. At the beginning of the introduction, in an effort to attract many users, Huawei also included support allowing users to install APK applications developed for the Android operating system – directly on HarmonyOS. However, now it appears that Huawei is ready to move on to the next step.

Through HarmonyOS Next (the next version of the operating system), Huawei is expected to only include native application support. This means, any application installer must be in the HAP format developed for HarmonyOS.

With this move, no more installation of APK applications will be supported on HarmonyOS. This will at once make it better positioned in being an alternative operating system, and not solely dependent on Android applications alone.

Today itself, we are ready to see various local companies also have their respective application offerings on AppGallery – and this transition may not have a big impact on users.

Anyway, let's see how users react when HarmonyOS Next is launched later.
