Threads users can now finally delete their account without having to worry about their Instagram account being lost. Adam Mosseri made the announcement of this feature earlier this morning and it can be done through the app's settings screen. All profile information, status posts, followers and Likes will be stored for 30 days before being completely deleted by Meta.
In addition to deleting the account completely, Threads users are also given the option to simply deactivate it so that it can be used again in the future if they change their mind. After deactivation, all posts, profiles and Likes will be hidden from other users.
Previously, if Threads were deleted, the Instagram account would also be deleted, which angered a small number of users. Also announced this week is a feature to not share Threads status to Instagram and Facebook for those who want to control where their posts can be read.
