After four months of being launched as a competitor to Twitter, Threads finally started supporting the use of hashtags on user-uploaded statuses. From the very beginning users have asked for hashtags to be supported to facilitate content searches on similar subjects.
Mark Zuckerberg announced the hashtag feature on Threads is now in testing in Australia only. It differs from hashtags on other platforms where when the “#” icon is used, Threads will suggest trending hashtags. After typing, the entire hashtag will be displayed in blue without the “#” in front of it.
The introduction of the hashtag on Threads is highly anticipated and comes days after Elon Musk said he wanted to end his support on X.
