Tumblr Ending Post+ Subscription Feature

Two years ago, Tumblr introduced the Post+ paid subscription feature. It is for content creators to lock in published content and require their followers to pay either $3.99, $5.99 or $9.99 per month. Recently, Matt Mullenweg as the CEO of Automattic which is the parent company of Tumblr announced that the Post+ feature will be discontinued.

Among the main reasons for this feature to be discontinued is that it did not receive the response they were aiming for and there was misuse of this feature to share illegal content to the extent that content creators received life-threatening threats. Content on Post+ will remain accessible until January 2024 before it is locked into private content. Users who pay for the subscription will also not be charged again after this.

Mullenweg also said that Tumblr's ad-free subscription feature and Blaze's feature that allows content creators to pay for their content to reach more people will be retained. But this feature is not able to cover the operating costs of Tumblr which requires more than 1000 servers as well as paying employee salaries due to insufficient income.

By 2024, Tumblr will distribute new updates to improve the experience of using this social media platform. Among the planned features are live broadcast content and a few more. What do you think about Tumblr? Do you still use it or now stick to X or social media platforms under Meta only?
