One by one the "free" services will change to a monthly subscription model. Google recently announced that beginning in early 2024, WhatsApp message backups will be counted in the Google Drive data quota. Every Google account owner receives a quota of 15GB of Google Drive storage for free. After the quota is used, they have to pay additional quota in monthly payments.
For WhatsApp Beta users, it starts earlier this December. Google Drive users need to delete the saved data first to continue backing up their messages in the future because it is no longer allowed after the 15GB quota is used up. This is another move by Google that will certainly not be liked by many users. We first reported the news that Google will start counting WhatsApp backups into the quota in 2022.
In 2021, photo backups to Google Photos at space-saving quality start to count towards Google Drive's 15GB quota. For those who like to backup images and videos received on WhatsApp, the free 15GB space offered by Google Drive will be used up quickly.
