Viu Malaysia today shared a number of developments regarding their company, saying it now has over 65.5 million monthly active users, and 11 million paid subscribers in total in over 16 markets where it operates. User figures for the Malaysian market were not shared, but Viu stated that Malaysia is among the top five markets that use and subscribe to the streaming service.
For the Southeast Asia region alone, Viu has the highest number of paid users – ahead of Netflix, Disney+ and even WeTV. Viu also claims they have the second highest monthly active user figures in the region after Netflix, and have the second highest watch time after Netflix.
Moving into 2024, Viu aims to continue adding exclusive TV-series to their platform. A total of 6 original TV-series will be produced in 2024, and 5 more licensed for the platform. Among the new TV series that will be present are Terlanjur Cinta, Nafsu, Gadis Masa, The Secret, From Saga With Love 2, and also the Malaysian adaptation of the TV series Strong Girls Bong-Soon.
Viu stated that they will continue to invest in and support local content, and maintain the quality of content published through their platform. Also for 2024, several activities to meet artists with fans will be organized specifically for Viu users.
