The Top 500 announced the latest list of the 10 fastest supercomputers in the world. The Frontier supercomputer, which started operations last year, remains in first place. Through this shared list, Intel processor chips and NVIDIA-produced GPUs are used on the majority of the fastest supercomputers. However AMD EPYC chips are used in the Frontier.
Frontier Supercomputers
It can also be seen that only Fugaku from Japan is the only supercomputer on this list located in Asia. The United States has six and Europe has three supercomputers on this list. China which is trying to develop their supercomputing infrastructure by 2025 is not on this list at all. Sunway's supercomputer with processing capabilities said to be capable of reaching 5.3 million exaFLOPs is not on the list.
So it is not surprising to see the action of the United States to prevent the sale of AMD and NVIDIA chips to China since a year ago with several computer companies from the country being included in the list of entities.
