Last May, YouTube tested a new method to block users who installed ad blockers. Then in June, YouTube tested allowing only three videos to play before being blocked completely. In addition to also testing the "Skip Ads" button design which is more hidden.
Recently, YouTube Communications Manager Christopher Lawton has issued a statement to The Verge that YouTube is now officially blocking users who install ad blockers globally. This is because the use of ad blockers subscribes to the terms and conditions of use of their video streaming service.
YouTube is also seen to no longer allow some videos to play, instead only having the option to turn off the ad blocker or continue to subscribe to YouTube Premium. Lawton also noted that advertising is the platform for the global content creator ecosystem that allows billions of users to access favorite content.
In Malaysia, YouTube Premium can be subscribed at a price of RM17.90 per month or a shared family plan with five people at a price of RM33.90. The plan for students is RM10.90 per month. Each of these subscription plans is ad-free and is included with a YouTube Music subscription.
