The Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max is the first iPhone to support optical zoom up to 5x. This technology is enabled by using a tetraprism folded glass structure that reflects light repeatedly. This feature is not provided on the iPhone 15 Pro because it requires a large space.
With the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max reportedly using larger screen sizes of 6.3-inches and 6.9-inches than the previous 6.1-inches and 6.7-inches, Apple will reportedly include this tetraprism telephoto sensor in both next year. According to MacRumors, this sensor looks more or less the same as the one used on the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
The question is, will Apple return to offer the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max with the same specifications but the size difference as the iPhone 14 Pro? Or will the iPhone 16 Pro Max have more innovative photography like the iPhone 15 Pro Max?
