EV Motorcycle Purchase Scheme (MARIICas) To Be Announced Tomorrow

At the end of last November, we reported the details of the EV motorcycle purchase rebate application scheme to be announced on December 8, 2023. Through it, various matters related to the application mechanism including user guides will be announced. Today, according to the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz announced this scheme will be known as "MARIICas".

MARIICas is under the management of the Malaysian Automotive Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii). Through it those who qualify will get a cash grant of RM2,400 to buy an electric motorcycle. In the meantime, it is also able to further encourage the people to accept the use of EVs in Malaysia.

So far various rebates and tax deductions can only be enjoyed by electric car buyers. Many complain that people who can afford EV cars should not be given a discount. On the other hand, people with an annual income of RM120,000 and below should be given the same incentive.

All EV schemes announced by the government so far are in line with the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR) which seeks to increase the use of sustainable energy and EVs that are more environmentally friendly.
