This model may be the smallest when compared to the Gemini Ultra and Gemini Pro but is still useful enough to provide the AI capabilities available on the device.
The Pixel 8 Pro is the choice because there is a Tensor G3 chip whose job is specifically to run AI. With Gemini Pro available on the device, various AI capabilities are possible even without internet access. Speaking of Snapdragon, Google representatives in a press conference that took place early yesterday morning said Gemini Nano can be run on devices that have Tensor cores built on NPUs such as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Currently Gemini Nano on Pixel 8 Pro is supported in the Summarize feature in the Recorder app and Smart Reply in Gboard. Google confirmed that more new features will be introduced on the Pixel 8 Pro in the future with it using Gemini Nano capabilities.
