Three years ago Facebook allowed cross-platform messaging between Messenger and Instagram. With this, Facebook users can still contact friends who prefer using Instagram without any issues. But according to the latest FAQ published by Meta, this cross-platform support will be discontinued in the middle of this month.
No reason was given as to why this useful feature was discontinued by Meta. But it may be closely related to the Digital Markets Acts (DMA) requirements by the European Union (EU) which require major social media platforms to support greater cross-platform messaging. Is this Meta setup to add other messaging app support to Instagram and Messenger in the near future?
After this cross-platform support is turned off new conversations are no longer possible. Messages sent before can no longer be forwarded and can only be read.
