Prime Video Starts Showing Ads Next January – Malaysia Survived

Amazon announced they will start displaying ads between their content starting in 2024 last September. Today they confirmed that starting January 29th, ads will be seen by Prime subscribers in the United States. For customers who do not want to watch any ads, an additional fee of $3 per month will be charged.

This makes Prime Video the last video streaming platform in the United States to offer ad display on their platform. This tactic has clearly worked for Netflix and Disney+, which recorded an increase in subscribers after ad-supported plans were introduced last year. The majority of new subscribers are willing to watch ads inserted between content simply for a cheaper subscription fee.

What about Prime Video customers in Malaysia? At this point you don't have to worry because Amazon only plans to offer ads in the US, UK, Germany, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Mexico and Australia gradually. Disney+ Hotstar and Netflix are also yet to offer their ad-supported plans in our country.
