Instagram is experiencing an issue where videos uploaded between June 2013 and October 2014 no longer play audio. When playing, the notification "video does not contain audio" will be displayed on the screen. This issue was discovered by The Verge and it was found to be happening in the Android, iOS and web version applications since last June but only got attention today.
The reason why it happened is still unknown at this time. Meta has been informed about this issue and is trying to resolve this issue but did not share when the missing audio will return.
With Instagram now being the easiest place to capture memories, the possibility of videos of children still being babies or memories with people who have died being lost forever is very troubling.
