The Windows 10 operating system will officially end support for updates starting October 14, 2025. According to the original plan no more new versions and security patches will be offered after that date. But today Microsoft says monthly security patch support will continue for another three years at an annual fee.
The Extended Security Updates (ESU) plan is offered to companies as well as individual users for a fee per machine that they wish to continue to support. Although Windows 10 will no longer receive new versions after Windows 10 22H2, there are still 1 billion computers still using this operating system. Windows 11 is currently only used on 400 million computers.
With ESU computer owners can continue using Windows 10 computers for three more years before having to buy a new computer. Microsoft has not yet shared the fees that will be charged to ESU customers when it is offered.
