10 Interesting and Disappointing Things Samsung Galaxy S24 Series

The Samsung Galaxy S24, Samsung Galaxy S24+ and Samsung Galaxy S24 Utra were launched this morning in San Jose, California. As usual when a Galaxy S device is announced, many want to know what new features are available and whether it's worth buying.

To make it easier for readers to make the right choice, we produced a list of 10 interesting and disappointing things about Samsung Galaxy S24 series devices. At the end of this article we hope you can do your own assessment.

1.Interesting – All Screens Now LTPO 120Hz

Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+ and Galaxy S24 Ultra are equipped with the same Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel screen. Sizes and resolutions are different but all three from the LTPO family allow support for refresh rates up to 120Hz. The brightness level of the screen increased to 2600 nits compared to 1750 nits last year. With higher peak brightness, the Vision Booster mode allows the content on the screen to be seen even in bright sunlight.

2. Interesting – Titanium Body On Galaxy S24 Ultra

Titanium material is Samsung's chosen exotic metal this year only on the S24 Ultra. This metal is more impact resistant but at the same time lighter. During the Cold War, titanium was used in the Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird spy plane and Alpha class nuclear submarines. Titanium resistance was once used in weapons but is now used in everyday use smartphones. Complementing the durability of the titanium body is Corning Gorilla Armor glass which is four times more durable than the previous generation.

3. Interesting – Call Assist Translates Language During Phone Calls

You can make phone calls with people who don't speak the same language on the Galaxy S24 series. The Call Assist feature can translate the language in real time when a phone call is made between two individuals. In the demo shown, a person who speaks English can talk to a person who only knows Korean.

What makes this feature even more amazing is that it is done in-built on the phone without an internet connection. Each S24 can be a fictional Universal Translator device from the world of Star Trek. At launch it supports 13 major world languages with plans to offer more languages gradually.

4. Interesting- Photo And Video Editing With AI

Continuing the Galaxy AI theme, the Galaxy S24 series can edit photos and videos with the help of artificial intelligence. AI can analyze photos in the Gallery application before giving suggestions for edits that can be done such as removing objects or increasing the resolution through the Remaster feature. Objects in the picture can be repositioned, completely deleted and then added outside the original frame all using AI.

Normal videos can be turned into slow motion videos with additional frames generated by AI. Removing shadows and reflections on mirrors can also be done in the blink of an eye. The feature offered by Samsung is very similar to the feature that was previously exclusive to Pixel devices.

5. Interesting – Chat Assist Helps Writing

Lacking talent for writing? Don't know a foreign language to send messages to merchants abroad? Want a more professional tone of language when writing to clients? All of this is made easier through the Chat Assist feature. It's like ChatGPT that intelligently suggests how messages can be sent to customers who want formal language, more relaxed for family members and full of emojis if you want to talk to the younger generation.

Chat Assist like Call Assist does not require internet to work as it is built directly into every S24 series device. It doesn't end here, Chat Assist can automatically switch languages in messaging apps like Google Messages, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp and Line. Over 100 languages are currently supported by Chat Assist.

6. Interesting – Circle To Search Facilitates Information Search

In the early days of the internet, searches were done by entering phrases into Google, Altavista, and Yahoo. Now internet search is more advanced with Assist voice commands and uploading photos to Lens is also possible. Now the latest search feature Circle to Search has been announced by Google on Galaxy S24 series devices first. With Circle to Search search can be done anywhere on the S24 phone.

Want to know what clothes the artists in Instagram Reels are wearing? Press not home to launch Circle to Search then draw a circle on the object you want to search for. Search results are displayed quickly without the user having to exit Instagram. Got a message about "where is the viral sambal cheese nasi lemak shop in Segambut?" in Messages? Activate Circle to Search then outline the phrase in the question earlier and the location of this store can be searched.

In addition to outlining and drawing circles, searches can also be done by scratching on pictures. With Circle to Search, search can be done anywhere without having to type any phrase.

7. Interesting – Update Support For Seven Years

There was a time when Samsung was the subject of a joke for their failure to provide fast operating system updates. Two years ago they offered four Android version updates and five years of security patches which became standard among other manufacturers. This year they follow in the footsteps of the Google Pixel 8 and offer support for seven versions of Android updates and seven years of security patches. This makes only the S24 and Pixel 8 series have update support comparable to the iPhone.

8.Interesting – Larger Cooling Chamber

The fact is that people buy flagship devices because they have the best performance. This is a priority especially among first time gamers. Permua is a market that has a larger percentage than the combined PC and console markets. A flagship smartphone should work brilliantly not only on normal applications but also on heavy games such as Genshin Impact and Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile. This year the smoke chamber of the S24 series cooling system has been increased in size up to 1.9X to ensure that the first high performance can be enjoyed for a longer period without heating issues.

9. Disappointing – Design Not Much Changed

One trend we're not fond of lately is old designs being reused with only changes to the internal hardware being used. It was popularized by Apple but has now spread to other manufacturers including Samsung. We know old designs are reused for reasons of being "more environmentally friendly" and "reducing waste". But the majority of people want to see innovation in the design year after year. It is difficult to distinguish last year's model from this year's model if the design difference is so subtle that it cannot be detected at a glance.

10. Disappointing – Only 45W Charging

Last year it was rumored that Samsung would offer 60W charging on the S24 series. But the S24+ and S24 Ultra still only support 45W charging while the S24 remains with 25W charging which we feel is no longer suitable for premium flagship devices.

Many would like to see Samsung bolder in offering faster charging. The fact that 45W charging is disappointing is because Samsung's competitors already provide 120W charging on mid-range devices. Why still have to wait an hour to charge when the 15 minute technology has been around for the past two years?
