The Tetris game is probably one of the few that is still played in large numbers despite its long launch. It was developed by Alexey Pajitnov in 1985 and since going on sale has never been defeated because it is programmed to only move faster and faster until it is difficult for human players to control.
But 13-year-old Willis Gibson from Oklahoma became the first human to beat Tetris. He reached level 157 and then the game stopped because it was not programmed to reach this level when it was developed. Gibson, a professional gamer only started playing Tetris a few years ago after being gifted a retro console by his mother.
Since its launch in 1985, an estimated 520 million Tetris games have been sold across multiple platforms making it the best-selling game in video game history. Close behind is Minecraft which has already sold 300 million copies.
